Program Summary

With more that 20,000 deaf and hard of hearing enrolled annually in post-secondary educational institutions according to the National Center for Education. It is obvious there is a need to understand the communication barriers experienced by those deaf and hard of hearing. In this session we will promote awareness of the unique individual communication needs of those with hearing loss. Participants of this workshop will learn communication strategies, the importance of ensuring effective communication, and learn of the different technology used to access effective communication.

  1. Understand different Communication barriers
  2. Learn steps to take to ensure effective communication
  3. Learn of different used by those deaf or with hearing loss technology demonstration
  4. Responsibility of honoring modifications for effective communication
