d/Deaf Connect: Creating Community withing the larger University Community

Program Summary

d/Deaf Connect: A program created to bring together d/Deaf or Hard of Hearing students who might not see another D/HOH person on a large university campus. It promotes support and community regardless of level of the hearing diagnosis or preferred communication style. Through various efforts, this program provides awareness and access training to campus faculty and staff to promote equity.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify how d/Deaf Connect has supported student resiliency and campus access, while cultivating academic, personal, and professional success.
    (How: PowerPoint presentation and participant discussion to apply information for their own campuses)
  2. Identify how the program changes as the population and their preferences change
    (How: Participant discussion to determine how to move forward as students, technology and their preferences change.)
