The purpose of this page is to elect a new President-Elect to the Board of Directors of AHEAD in Texas. Each current AHEAD in Texas member can cast one vote. Please choose the selection that you feel is appropriate. Your email address will be used to verify a current membership with voting rights.
President-Elect Position Description
The President-Elect serves a 3 year term. The first year as President-Elect, the second as President, and the third as Past-President. The President-Elect spends their first year primarily assisting in planning and coordinating the annual conference and in the absence of the President, would assume the duties of President.
Candidate 1: Spencer Scruggs
Spencer Scruggs currently serves as the Director of Student Accessibility Services at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX. Prior to his role at Trinity University, he served in a variety of roles within the Office of Student Accessibility Services at Florida State University for six years, culminating in the Assistant Director role. Spencer has also served in an organizing capacity with FL-AHEAD previously, coordinating professional development for providers at the major Florida state higher education institutions, and finished a three-year term as the Chair for the Coalition for Disability with ACPA-College Student Educators International. He has presented at numerous national conferences, including this year’s AHEAD in Texas conference, the national AHEAD conference (in 2019), and the annual ACPA convention (in 2017, 2018, 2020, and this year), on the topic of disability in higher education. Spencer considers himself a scholar-practitioner first, having conducted research on disabled student success, written an article published in the Journal for Postsecondary Education and Disability, and authored chapters in books and manuscripts on the topic of disability in higher education. As President (Elect) of AHEAD in Texas, Spencer would endeavor to continue the Association’s work in championing Disability Services Practitioners in the state and expand support mechanisms for Disability Services across Texas Higher Education.
Candidate 2: Kory Kimble
Kory Kimble has been working with Individuals with Disabilities for over 30 years now. Kory resided in North Carolina for 15 years and worked at Broughton Hospital (A State Mental Hospital), At the Department of Corrections where he graduated President of his class at the North Carolina Justice Academy. He then accepted a job at The North Carolina School for the Deaf. After 5 years and Being a Teacher and Coaching a group of Deaf Boys to a County Championship in Football, and being recognized as Coach of the year, he then accepted a Group home manager position where he worked and managed a CMI and four DD homes. Kory worked in that compacity for 6 years and witnessed 6 of the CMI Clients graduate into independent living. He then moved to Texas and accepted a Manager position at a Workshop/Day Program in Tyler for 7 years. He continued to Interpret for Schools and other settings during most of these positions. He was then asked to accept a position of Interpreter/Coordinator of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services and Disability Services Assistant at Kilgore College where he has been working in for the past ten plus years. He and his wife are huge animal lovers and have been rescuing Cocker Spaniel’s for ten years plus. He is always learning and exploring new and different ways to assist the Individuals we work with and would cherish the opportunity to serve and assist with the AHEAD group in Texas.
